We are back from California and competing at the Pan Ams, one of the biggest tournaments in BJJ. A huge congrats to Sean W for taking third place, Eric H for taking second and Vince for winning his division! All of our competitors fought their butts off, showed a ton of heart and came back with lessons learned and a renewed focus. Other highlights include Professor Todd dominating his first match, Sean S putting his first opponent to sleep, Dale also winning his first match. Tessa and Eric having nail biter matches. Also from Ribeiro Jiu-Jitsu congrats to Gustavo Elias from the University for taking second in the adult ultra black belt heavyweight division. Also competing this weekend Xande Ribeiro checked off another Abu Dhabi pro win finishing his division from the back including up and coming BJJ superstar Jackson Souza. In class this week we have our little samauri covering mount escapes, opening the guard and the bullfighter pass. Samurai and adult fundamentals are covering attacks from the closed guard. The all levels will be focusing on attacking the back while the white belt drills will be going over back escapes and attacks. The self defense class will be going over techniques from the clinch and the punch block from the guard. The advanced class will be covering pass the butterfly guard. Remember that our self defense class right now is a limited time thing for the next 7 weeks and fundamentals starts at the usual 6 PM time on Tuesdays. We are also moving our 6 AM wednesday class to 7 AM wednesday.

So we have a busy week here at Jubera Jiu-Jitsu. First off we have a new schedule. Based on our growing student base and answers to our student survey we have added a Sunday no-gi class at 11:00 AM and a Self Defense class Tuesday at 5:30 PM where there will be a little bit of overlap with the fundamentals. I am really excited about both new added classes and the new schedule starts this week. In academy news we are heading out to Irvine, California this week for the Pan Ams. This is one of the biggest tournaments of the year. We have an amazing crew competing and I can't wait to coach them through their battles. Thanks again to the coaches and staff who will be help run things while I am gone. Also our academy is now two years old! Time flies and it wasn't that long ago Aaron was putting the finishing touches on the wall mats. We will organize a social event to celebrate it after the guys and gals make weight this weekend. I appreciate you guys. Our next training trip will be going to Lovato's School of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu to train some No-Gi with Lovato as he prepares for his superfight. I am looking at leaving Wednesday, March 29th and getting back Monday afternoon. If you guys want to join it is usually a less expensive trip than San Diego with some great training.
In Ribeiro Jiu-Jitsu news, congrats to Nick Schrock on doing great at the Five Grappling invitational. He took second at the 8 man tournament that included world champions like Leandro Lo, Tarsis Humprheys and others. Great job last week in classes guys! This week in classes Fundamental and Samurai classes we will be going over mount escapes to the dog fight position. The little Samurai will be going mount escapes to opening the guard. The white belt drills will be covering the back position. The all levels will be going over other back attacks. No Gi classes will be attacking a lot of submissions. Our youth athletes will be talking about perseverance. |
