Last Saturday we started getting ready for the May 13th Fight to Win tournament with some hill sprints. It was a great workout and will help give our guys that extra gas tank they need at the tournament.
We have a lot of students and coaches traveling in the coming weeks. Tessa and Prof Todd are competing this weekend in the IBJJF Dallas Open. Coach Will is making a trip down to train at the University of Jiu-Jitsu with Saulo and Xande on Friday night (but his Friday class is normal schedule). The following weekend I will in Oregon helping Black Belt silver medalist, James Puopolo get ready for worlds and teaching a seminar there.
In Ribeiro Jiu-Jitsu news the Abu Dhabi World Championship was this weekend with Xande taking 3rd in his division after losing a very close match with Felipe Pena. Xande had an incredible year in competition and was celebrated as one of the top athletes.
We are also doing stripes and belts for our Little Samurais and Samurai program this week. With Little Samurai's starting on Monday and Samurai's starting on Tuesday. They have been working very hard on their technique and deserve every stripe awarded.
In the adult classes we will be covering the guard passing in the fundamentals, The all levels we will be working on passing into our arm triangle. The advanced we will be working on starting from the feet and sweeps. The white belt drills class will be working on escapes.
Last weekend were the ADCC West Coast trials where Ribeiro Jiu-Jitsu had a great showing. Lovato Jr had a great super fight and showed a ton of grit and heart out there. Nick Shrock took second in his division and Casey won the heavyweight division. Right now the Ribeiro team for ADCC is Xande, Lovato, Justin Rader, and Casey.
We have our own Tessa and Professor Todd competing in the Dallas Open at the end of the month. Then Fight to Win is May 13th. If you guys are planning on competing, join me for some hill sprints on Saturday. Directions are on the FB group.
Also the University of Jiu-Jitsu put up a nice video of the 10 year anniversary celebration which we were very happy to be apart of.
The month of May will be bring a buddy month. So if you guys bring five friends to check out class we will get you guys a free gi. They don't have to sign up. Just come and check it out.
We are still settling on the date for our get together, belt promotion and feast. Probably and the end of May or early June. Keep your eyes out for that.
Classes have been rocking and everyone has been enjoying the new floating floor. The little samurai will be working on crazy horse. The fundamentals and samurai class have been working on opening the closed guard a lot the past couple weeks, now we will be focusing on the cross knee pass. White belt drills will be covering side control escapes. Self defense we will be going over our shoulder throw vs attacks from the rear. The advanced class will be covering half guard and starts from the feet. All levels will be covering more passing.
Write something about yourself. No need to be fancy, just an overview.
