My instructor and 7 time world champion, Xande Ribeiro is coming back to Jubera Jiu-Jitsu on October 15th! Last time Xande did a 3 hour seminar, but this time he is doing 3 - 2 hour seminars with a Sunday Open Mat/Q&A for anyone who attends one of the Saturday sessions. This way people will be able to attend which sections they want and have a chance to digest the material for questions. The seminar is open to anyone, but Non-Ribeiro school members will be $20 more than the listed price below.
As our academy continues to grow we are adding two more classes this week on Thursday with a Samurai class (older kids) starting at 4:15 - 5:30 PM and a white belt only class starting at 5:30 PM - 6:10 PM. This should help our parents when other sports pop into their child's schedule. And our white belt only class should help them our white belts with their more basic moves and drills.
This week we will be doing belt promotions for the Samurai's and Little Samurais. The Samurai have been looking great in training and the Little Samurai have been putting a ton of time into their shrimps and scissor sweeps.
Last weekend we had a go cart adventure where we got together for some fun and social time outside of the academy. There are some great pics and videos on Facebook.
The advanced class will keep going over our passing drills from open guard. The fundamentals will be tightening up their armbar, triangle and omo plata submissions. The all levels will be working on starting from the knee sheild half guard.
This weekend had a lot of Jiu-Jitsu action with Rafael Lovato Jr and James Puopolo winning in their respective Fight to Win Pro 11 matches by collar chokes. You can see when Lovato gets the mount people are not prepared for the amount of pressure he brings. Our own Andrew Vu competed and had a good showing as well. Also at EBI, Felipe Fogolin made it to the semi-finals. I competed against Felipe in the finals of pan ams in 2008. He has great takedowns and awesome submissions.
In local Jiu-Jitsu we headed up to Catalyst BJJ on Sunday to learn from 4x world champion Lucas Lepri who showed some great details for passing that we will go cover in our advanced class. Lucas is a beast to train with and I appreciate my black belt Todd Kornfield for bringing him out. Lucas won his first world championship in 2007 and most recently this year in 2016.
In advanced class we will be covering guard passing drills and some passes from Lepri. In the all levels we will continue to work on attack x guard from the knee shield. The fundamentals will be working on their open guard and attacking submissions. The Samurai's will be working on their guard passing and submissions. The Little Samurais will be working on the movements to back control. The children will be talking about impulse control in their mat chats.
Write something about yourself. No need to be fancy, just an overview.
