I am back from training with No-Gi World Champion Professor James Popoulo and his crew at Salem-Keizer BJJ in Oregon. It was a tremendous experience helping each other prepared for the no-gi world championships in December. At the end of the trip I taught a seminar for his guys and some of the other Ribeiro Jiu-Jitsu guys in the area and shared some of the details from our passing system. Thanks to our coaches for helping keeping things running smoothly while I was out training and testing ideas. Here are some pics of the seminar.
Over the next couple months, some of our guys will be getting ready for No-Gi events. Mondays and Wednesdays will still get dressed in the gi, but we will be going over techniques that focus on no-gi strategy. If you want to train no-gi on those days, just wear a rash guard under your gi top.
Next week we have the Fight to Win Pro event on Friday and the tournament on Saturday. My friend from Oklahoma and Lovato BJJ instructor Dallas Niles will be in town. If you guys are looking for a bigger guy to show passing or deep half guard he will be available for private lessons. Just talk to Tricia about that.
Our new mats are ordered and will get here around the end of the month. Once the mats are installed will begin our next round of Coaches mentoring for those that are interested in learning to coach Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and assist classes (with a focus on the kids).
